ABOUT HANNAH
I’m Hannah VanDerslice, the Founder & Creative Director of Bohemian Alps Collective. I’m a right-brained, working mama X3 of our little explorers, Eva, Azalea and Maximus, alongside my left-brained hubby, Jeremy. My background is in creative + strategic branding, content creation, advertising & social media. I’ve always been passionate about hearing and telling stories whether it be with a camera or pen and paper. I love locally made brands and hearing how entrepreneurs started their businesses, what their passions are when it comes to their trade craftsmanship and custom services.
My traditional education is comprised of working in the marketing and branding division at a Fortune 500 company, a local non-profit, teaching a copywriting course as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, starting a professional photography and design business back in 2010 and finishing my Master’s thesis that studied how female entrepreneurs use social media for their businesses. I also took two semesters worth of creative writing Master’s credits while attending Bradley University in Illinois, was the President of the student-led group, University Nebraska Students Against Modern Day Slavery (NUSAMS), helped plan a worldwide human trafficking conference that was hosted at the Lied Center of Performing Arts, taught photography at a TedX Lincoln event, and served as the photographer for the University of Nebraska Advertising Club.
When the University of Nebraska was awarded with a $125,000 Carnegie Foundation grant for the UNL Native Daughters depth report through the College of Journalism & Mass Communications, I served as the magazine designer. I also worked as the web designer and photographer for the College of Engineering
website and served as the editor and designer for their
student-run magazine, "The Blueprint".
I’ve participated in a live, in-person design courses at CreativeLive studios in Seattle as well as completed Marie Forleo’s B-School, an 8-week online training program that covers marketing concepts for small businesses, and attended Masters classes at the yearly Wedding and Portrait Photographers International conference in Las Vegas.
I’ve had the opportunity to travel to 15 different countries, where I love testing the cultural cuisines (except fish that come with teeth or eyeballs…and black fungi soup, turns out). We’ve met some amazing people, done things I would NEVER do now that we have kids, seen amazingly beautiful parts of our planet and branched out of my comfort zone. Travel builds stronger relationships, creates a better understanding of other cultures, helps you better understand yourself and inspires new ways of thinking. The greatest impact is that it makes you truly appreciate your roots.
Speaking of roots, we chose to build our home in the heartland of Nebraska, in this region called the Bohemian Alps, among the vast landscapes of rolling hills because it’s between the small towns where we both grew up. It’s God’s canvass – my favorite days are when an overcast sky hits the lime green and ombre textures of native grass at golden hour. There is so much beauty in the small-town life, friends and family, and potential to use our talents to add to a growing rural community we love and now get to call our home. Everything from the traditional recipes, festivals, slow-paced living, agriculture and recreation… it’s a place like no other, and I’d love to invite you along our journey.
I absolutely LOVE Instagram (so much, that I wrote my Masters thesis on “How Female Online
Businesses and Brands are Using Instagram Stories”) You’ll find me sharing @bohemianalps.
I’d love to see your posts too, so if you have photos of your art, a business, project, adventure,
experience or event in the Bohemian Alps, please tag us and post with the hashtags: #bohemianalpsco #brandsofbohemianalps and #bohemianalpscollective
